Module for 1.5

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: , — Eike @ March 8, 2008 7:10 pm
08/03/08 I started a new page to make room for new comments ;-)

I fixed (with help from Maurice in the comments) the SQL for the display of section/category names, this should work now. I added more ordering options, and an option to disable pluging for the module content. Alas it is not possible to disable plugins selectively, it's all or nothing. 09/03/08 Edited to add: Plugins are disabled by default, if you want to run plugins on the module content you have to enable them in the module parameters.

This has been tested on J! 1.5.1 J!1.5.2 running under WAMPP.

20/03/08 Added support for the accessible Beez template. At the moment you need to manually set the template in the module parameters. Edited to add: Adam Wallner found a bug in the modules HTML that has been there for some time, I recommend an upgrade to the fixed version, or simply overwrite helperhtml.php with the fixed file from the archive.

04/04/08 Mike Bronner fixed an sql error that prevented the author names from showing, and I took Steves suggestion from comment 27 for the readmore-Link.

    1. In frontpage:
      - If I tick “Run Plugins”: Readmore links is error (only link to root folder).
      - So I tick “Do not run Plugins”: That’s ok with Readmore links, but component JComments can not run.
      I’m stuck here. Can anyone help me, please?

    3. Just checking back to see if anyone has discovered a way to unhide the edit icon? Again, it will only display if one of the three other icons (PDF, mail & print) are enabled.

    5. Hey Eike, this is a great module period! Even if you are just starting out and don’t have great skills using Joomla, this will help building forms that would otherwise be very hard to make. Kudos to the creators!

    6. Awesome mod. I’ve set up modules with query based content generation on a central “data” page on which I use stacked filters. Enables me to route items of select categories to different module positions, but then filter all of those modules by several criteria (ajax passing of form data, and usage of those params in sql queries). I was hoping to use your module nested inside of MetaMod with my SQL queries, which would allow me to inject a comma seperated string of article ID’s into your module for display; straight echo’s out of php are fine but formatting is ouch. Sadly, I used k2’s convenient extra fields feature, and the articles don’t have ID’s in the Joomla article system. I’m wondering if perhaps you might have a rapid workaround to suggest? Many thanks ~dja

    7. Were using version 1.3.1 and we’re having a problem with the edit icon. When users are logged in on the front end and they try to edit the article they don’t see the edit icon unless one of the other three icons are active (print, email, pdf) on the backend. If we hide these three icons, the edit icon never appears. Please assist!

    9. Hi Eike (zum dritten Mal).
      I’ve just realised that your editor is abandonning text encased in gt. and lt. tags. My point again:
      Line 32 of the helperhtml.php file should be echoing a closing td and not a closing div.

    10. Hi Eike
      My previous post was sabotaged somehow, so I’ll try again without cutting and pasting:

      There’s a small bug in the ‘helperhtml.php’ file. Line 32 should be echoing a closing not a in my humble opinion.

    11. Hi Eike
      I think there is a small bug in the helperhtml.php file:
      ==============================
      echo ”;
      echo ”;
      for($i=0;$i<$leading;$i++) {
      if($rows[$i]) {
      echo '’;
      echo ” . $rows[$i] . ”;
      echo ”;
      ===============================
      I think the final should be . Everything works fine, but the validator won’t like it.
      Immerhin, vielen Dank fuer eine super Arbeit – und schoene Ferien.

      I just realized that in the edit item link there’s missing com_content string so an attempt to edit the article from other component throws an error. I took over crappy project and just upgraded from J1.9 so the mistake may be as well on my side.

    22. I’m at it, but hit a few snags (the pager class from the joomla framework is not reusable in modules, SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS does not work with Joomfish, things like that), so I guess it’ll take another few weeks before I come up with a decent solution.

    23. Fantastic plugin! Could you add an option that lets you display multiple pages of items? I have it set to display up to 25 items using the “Number of items displayed” option, but what I really want is for it to display 10 items, with a NEXT PAGE link at the bottom. That way, I can display an unlimited number of items across multiples “pages” of items, instead of a fixed number.

    24. Thank you Eike. This module does exactly what I need. Very simple to implement yet extremely powerful.

      I have experienced the same trouble as Xavier (April 14) Module is also placed right in ja_purity. The module inserts an underscore at the end of my article which causes an extra wide gap between mod_placehere and the module below it. What is specifically the code that is causing this, and will there be a fix soon?

      Best regards.

    26. Hi Dan, there is a switch in the module settings called “run plugins”. Plugins in module content are disabled by default, you need to set run plugins to “yes”.

      Hope that helps,

      Eike

    27. Hey Frederikke,

      This module is really good, that’s exactly what I was looking for, however, I want to display an article with a plugin, and the plugin is shown only as the code and not as the function it should be doing.

      I hope you can help me out with this.

      Cheers,
      Dan

    28. No spacer between two columns?

      First I’d like to thank you for the great module. I have one question though:

      When I try publish a category through your module in two columns there is no spacer (horizontal) between two articles. Is that normal or I’ve done something wrong? Any way to change it?

    29. Hi Eelco, my usual upgrade route is: overwriting the module files (without uninstalling), then entering the admin panel and re-save the module settings. This works on my test server, so I guess it should work for you, too.

    30. Thanks for this wonderful module. We currently use version 1.2.2 and would like to upgrade to 1.3.1. A test update (uninstall required) at my local machine resulted in the loss of the already created modules (we have quite a few). Any way to prevent this loss?

    31. Hi, first of all it is a great module, but I need a little help. When I add new article, then I wanna place as a module in postion Left, it doesnt show. I see the module title(placehere), but the articel not. waht should be the problem.
      thx for the help

    32. Hi Eike,
      thank you for this nice and useful module.
      I would like to share a problem and – maybe – a solution.
      At the end of a module PlaceHere (template ja-purity, position right), the module inserts an “extra” underscore.
      I discover with FireBug that the underscore is due to a tag at the end of the modue, in particular
       .
      At this point I found that this tag is present in beez.php (line 133) and beezArticleParams.php (line 237).
      I make a small change to thess files, deleting the “ ”.
      Now everything is OK.
      I hope could be useful to some one.

      danke für deine Antwort vom 27.3.
      Hab das jetzt so eingestellt und die Tabellen sind nun weg.
      Allerdings klebt das Image und der Content jetzt am Rande des DIVs. Wie bekomme ich da jetzt noch einen Abstand rein?

    34. Hi Henry, sorry for the late reply. There is currently no paging implented in the module, but since so many people ask I try and will build it into the next release.

      Comment by Eike — April 13, 2010 @ April 13, 2010 4:27 pm

    35. Hi Joel, you would do any styling via your CSS files. Each instance of the container is wrapped in a container element with a class of .mod_placehere. So to re-style all second-tier headlines (h2) in the module content you would, for example, add .mod_placehere h2 { color:red; font-size:24px; } to your template’s CSS file.

      The module already has so many setting that I would hesitate to include CSS options into the module backend.

    38. Hello

      Firstly thank you for your module “Place here”.

      That’s exactly the module I need.

      I downloaded and installed version 1.3.1.

      I use the template “Title Only”.

      “Number of items displayed” = 10.

      I have several tens of items.

      My problems:

      - I do not find the opportunity to see the next 10 news items etc … How? Button next / previous ?

      - “Hide Current Article” has no effect in any case does not work, I see no change.

      Thank you for your answers.

      Henry.
