Joomla 1.5 has finally arrived and so I guess I should put a bit more effort into the 1.5 module – so far most bug reports and feature request have been for the “contentitem module”, but I expect that will change soon.
While I’m willing to honour every feature request I possibly can I hate unnecssary efforts, so I do not want to include features nobody uses. The content item module has a feature called “merge items” that allows to display multiple content items as one, so you can print or pdf (can I use “pdf” as a verb?) multiple items in one go. I built this for the guy on whose request I originally wrote the module, but I’m not sure how many people actually use this.
The “place here”-module so far misses the merge-option. I would be interested in your opinion – do you think this is an important feature, or just a nice-to-have (and other features should be other included first), or is this completely useless?

Eike I have been a devoted fan of this extension for over a year now and it has always impressed me how respectful and responsive you are to your users with regard to feature requests and problems. You are a credit to Joomla 3rd party extension developers!
So I nearly cried tears of joy when I discovered you had been developing a new version of this for Joomla 1.5, because this is such a can’t-live-without module for my site layout that I would not have been able to consider migrating to Joomla 1.5 without it.
In answer to your question, I have not used the merge feature myself but I can see it could be an indispensable feature under certain circumstances so I would hate to see it go, but… as Rod mentions above, I think it is a lower priority feature which we can be happy to wait for.
Thanks so much for all the fine work you have done on this priceless module. In my opinion this module provides a feature which should have been built into the core Joomla architecture, so this makes your efforts a godsend to many of us!
Cheers,
Zana

Hi Hans,
frankly I’m not sure why I thought this was necessary – the “width”-option simply codes the table width (fot the table that is used to arrange stuff in columns) into the module html and it makes more sense to do this via style sheets, so I guess the parameter will go in some later version.
Hans
thanks Eike, appreciate this feature very much.
please could you explain how to use the parameter ‘table width’ and when it is helpful to use this option.
Eike
Well, I guess that settles it. This is not entirely trivial so it’ll take a week or two, but I will add the merge feature.
Astrid
I would love to have the merge feature. I’ve now published the content of a section on one page, but can’t print it. The merge feature would help me a lot.
Rod
I can’t tell you how much I love this module. Thank you for creating it!
I personally have used the merge feature on a couple of sites… I do like it – though I don’t use it every time. I would prefer to see it left in if at all possible.
That said – I’m anxious for 1.5 – so if its something you can do later… I can wait for the option. 🙂
thanks again!
