Bugfixes again and a readmore-link problem

I posted a version of the place here module with various bigfixes bugfixes (holy Freud). Thanks go to Kenneth Crowder, Leland Hirschman, CoRpO and all the others. I make a point to try to mark your various contributions in the module source code, feel free to write if I forgot you.

There is one problem for which I need more feedback: It seems that somehow the links (readmore and linked titles) do not work properly (at least I have one bug report saying so). I thought I had reproduced the issue, but while I fixed a problem with wrong links for linked titles it doesn’t quite match the issue from the bug report, so if your experiencing trouble with wrong module links please leave a comment.

Dowload Links

This is a constant issue and one day i need to organize my website better, but until then…. There a two different versions for the module, one for Joomla 1.0.x, which is called mod_contentitem, and one for Joomla 1.5, which is called mod_placehere. The module for 1.0.x won’t work with 1.5 (not even in legacy mode) and vice versa.

Download for 1.0.x version is here: Content Item Module

Download for 1.5. version is here: Module for 1.5

You’ll find both these links in the sidebar.

    1. scuse me there was an error in my webpage address. here it’s ok!

    2. I’m using mod_contentitem and I’m migrating to 1.5.
      when I istall mod_place here, is there a file to migrate? or I’ve to repeat all work to search for each page and each translation the right content ID and all the other information?
      how to migrate??
      thank you for helping – because it’s a great module!!!!

    3. Yes, it’s Joomla 1.0.15. I tried what you suggest some time ago and it worked in hiding the comment form, but there was some sort of problem with the Captchas. If I remember correctly there were too many of them generated and I got errors at some point. So the option was to allow comments without using captcha + mod_contentitem, or not allowing comments at all + mod_contentitem, or allow comments with captcha – modcontentitem. I opted at that time to keep mod_contentitem and disable comments altogether.

      Oh well, I guess the final solution would be to upgrade to 1.5…

    4. Hi Larry,

      assuming that we are talking about Joomla 1.0.x there is really no good solution for the problem. In order to mimick the mainbody as closely as possible (which was the intended goal) the module uses the core content show function. Whatever happens in there happen to the module content also, since there are no parameters to override mambots etc.

      A workaround would be to see if you can use CSS inheritance to at least hide the unwanted html. For example if the comments sit in a div with the class of ” class=”comments” ” your could do something like

      .mod_contentitem .comments {
      display:none;
      }

      to hide the stuff. The only other solution would be to hack in the core content function (adding a parameter to the function that allows to suppress mambots) but I would strongly discourage you from taking that route.

      If you are using Joomla 1.5 you can simply disable plugins in the module parameters.

    5. Hi,

      I love this mod and have been using it for two years. Thanks for the effort of developing.

      I wanted to let you know a bit of problem I have with it though. I use it for a News site to place the most recent content item’s title and author from each category in the sidebar. The problem is that when I have a Comment system in place (for instance AkoComment, or Joomcomment) the comment form appears in the side bar, bloating everything out of proportion. It would be nice to be able to select only title+author for display in these cases.
